Palakai (Raw Jack fruit) Pirattal/Masala

Palakai is usually a substitute for meat for the non vegans who want to turn vegan. It has the flavor of meat. This masala or the kurma made with palakai is so good and almost gives the taste of a meat dish. It is my first time cutting the palakai on my own and making this piratal. Kurma recipe will also be updated soon.

This is what you need:

Half Palakai (cut into small pieces)
1 Big onion chopped finely
1 Tomato chopped finely

To Grind:

3 Tbsp Coconut
1 Tbsp Fried gram/Pottukadalai
1 Tbsp Fennel seeds
1 Tbsp Cumin seeds
4-5 Red chillies

Grind this with little water

To season:

1 Inch Cinnamon
1 Bay leaf
1 Tsp Fennel seeds
1 Tsp Cumin seeds

This is what you do:

  • Add the onions and saute till translucent
  • Add the tomatoes and saute till it turns mushy
