Sambhar Powder

Sambhar Powder
Home made spice powders always takes food to a whole new level. It is passed in all ours homes from generation to generation. This sambhar spice powder was one which my mother used to make. It can be used in your Idli dosa sambhar, Sambhar rice or the chidambaram gosthu. 

This is what you need:

3 tbsp Bengal gram/Kadalai paruppu
3 tbsp Coriander seeds
6-7 Red chillies
1 tbsp Fenugreek seeds
1 tsp Asfoetida powder
1 tsp Oil

This is what you do:

  • Heat the oil in a pan
  • Add the Bengal gram and coriander seeds and saute till you get the aroma
  • Now add the fenugreek seeds, asfoetida and red chillies and saute till you get the aroma
  • Take care not to burn the red chillies
  • Cool and grind to a coarse powder without adding water
  • Keep in a airtight container and store for a month.
